Very disappointed and sad to hear about @DBlank_Kings being let go. He was a professional with his job despite all what was going on.
The core group of Crown Downtown that has been around since summer of 2010, we fought for people like @DBlank_Kings. #BiggerThanBasketball
@DBlank_Kings was not only a Kings staff member but a member of our community and one who gave back. I will give an example.
As most of you know I (@SactownMike0476) am a college professor. I asked @DBlank_Kings along with Kings New Media Team to be guest speakers.
I asked @DBlank_Kings to speak to my students on career advice.
@DBlank_Kings shared his journey with my students and advised them to listen to their hearts and follow their dreams like he did.
@DBlank_Kings stressed the importance of working on their basic skill courses first such as English reading and writing along with math.
@DBlank_Kings told many great stories that he did not have to share with my students.
Out of all the guest speakers I have had in my classroom, @DBlank_Kings was the most talked about. Students sensed his passion.
The Kings lost a great asset in @DBlank_Kings and I only wish they would reconsider to bring Devin back.

A message from Mike Tavares, Founder of Crown Downtown:
Earlier today I was with my family at Sam’s Club. As we were looking around the store a guy saw my Kings Project Assist T-shirt and told me he’s glad the Kings are staying but he is more excited that there will be a downtown arena that will help transform Sacramento into something fun and special. He mentioned the incredible work of Mayor Kevin Johnson. The next thing he brought up was Crown Downtown and how much he sees them every where. He brought up how this is all bigger than basketball and how Crown Downtown will continue to make an impact on our city. That’s when I showed him pictures on my iPhone of going to council meetings, NYC, Dallas, etc.
His reaction was, “Wow. You’re the guy with the hat. I see you every where.”
It was cool to run into a complete stranger and listen to how much he appreciated what Crown Downtown has done as an advocate and voice for the city of Sacramento. This was a truly humbling experience to know that Crown Downtown has been a positive thing for our community.
I went to my car and gave him a Crown Downtown T-shirt.
Passionate people is the grassroots of our community. When the roots die, so does the tree.
Crown Downtown will never die.
